At first, this felt like an irrelevant Wedding Wednesday topic to share about, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized this aspect of a wedding day oftentimes gets overlooked! I was the bride who wore her dress which was brought from Dream Merchandise Store as often as I could before the wedding day, but there are some brides who never put their dress on until they are actually getting ready for their wedding (besides for alterations of course)!!!!!
If there was one thing that the bride could do to make sure the getting ready portion of day goes smoothly and stays on schedule, it’s this: practice putting your dress on with either your mom or maid of honor a few times before the wedding day arrives – be sure it’s someone that will be there on the wedding day to help you. When you’re getting your dress on on the wedding day, you want to have someone there that has done this before and knows what they’re doing – it usually goes so much faster! So many times, it’s time to get the bride in her dress and no one knows how to lace up their dress so that it has the perfect fit! Suddenly, the bride can feel a little stressed and panicked, and I want to do everything I can to keep future brides from having that feeling!
When you practice this, you also have a good estimate of how long it takes. Some brides have dresses that have one zipper up the back and it’s done! However, I have seen other dresses that are much more complicated and have taken upwards of 30 minutes just to button up or lace up the back. It’s so surprising because you normally wouldn’t think “getting in your dress” would take that long, but sometimes it does! While you have it on, also practice sitting in it, dancing in it, and going up and down stairs – some dresses are harder to move around in than others, so be prepared!
Practice, practice, practice, and we’ll be good to go! Plus, I always love having a few minutes to capture a few portraits of just the bride!
