The first time Eli and Summer met was when he picked her up at the Cedar Rapids airport! But first, let’s back up a little bit! Summer was born and raised in Seattle while Eli grew up in Columbus Junction. Summer moved here in middle school, and instantly fell in love with Iowa. She then moved BACK to Washington at the end of middle school, but she loved to come back to visit as much as she could. In the summer of 2014, she was here in Iowa at the county fair and noticed Eli. She said “I saw this REALLY sweet looking guy (not just attractive, something about his composure LOOKED so gentle, charming in the best way and kind!) that was stacking hay bales in the Farmers Olympics.” She would later find out that Eli noticed her that same day too, and felt the same way! But they didn’t meet, and she flew back home. Eventually, he found her on social media, and they talked off and on for a few years. She said “He began intentionally pursuing me after some time and I friend zoned him pretty hard. I knew I wanted to move to Iowa that year but I wanted to on my own terms and not for a guy so I shut out any potential relationship!” Eli, being the sweet guy he is, was patient and willing to wait. Summer finally announced in the fall of 2016 she was moving back to Iowa after she graduated, and she knew she wanted to meet him! They began getting to know each other through hours of FaceTimes, and she flew out in to meet him, she met his entire family, and they became officially not too long after! She started school at UNI while he was at Iowa State, and two years later he proposed on top of the Arizona mountains! What a sweet love story!
I had such a fun time with these two, and they seriously are so adorable together! They’re perfect for each other in every way possible. I’ve only ever met one other Summer in my entire life, so calling someone else by my own name was definitely something to get used to! I love sharing a name with my bride, and I’m so grateful to have met them! Enjoy many of my favorites from their engagement session!
